Big Life Moments Call for Big Life Conversations

What is it about big life moments that really get you thinking about the future? A common question we get from potential clients is “When is the right time to start talking to a financial planner?” Typically these questions arise right around the time of a big life change.

Recently I met a friend for dinner. My friend and her husband are expecting their first child, and she will be the first out of my rather large group of college friends to have a baby. We talked a lot about her pregnancy, how my friend was feeling, how the nursery will be decorated, etc. All the usual talk you would expect when discussing the arrival of a new baby. Then, much to my surprise, I was asked to be their child’s godmother. Cue the happy tears!

The initial shock and excitement of being asked to play a significant role in a child’s life had me pondering about the importance of involving your financial planner in big life moments. It’s one of the joys, and also hardships in our profession – we get to be there for all the big moments, good or bad. Marriage, babies, sending grown babies to college, retirement, divorce, the death of loved ones. We’re there for it all, and we do our best to plan for it all.

Life’s big moments can also be the sum of small decisions. Maybe you’ve recently changed jobs or decided to move to a new home or retirement center. Maybe you’re thinking about donating more money to charity. All of these decisions can have a big impact on your financial future, and we want to help you make informed decisions and help plan for now and later with the whole picture in mind.

Have you had a big life moment recently? Now that spring is approaching, you may hear from us to schedule a review of your investment accounts. I encourage you to sit down with us and tell us about your life moments, big and small. We strive to have a personal and purposeful relationship with all of our clients so we can serve you and your family best.
